I don’t know where to start. These are watermelon outfits. MATCHING watermelon outfits, no less. Granny loved to have her babies dressed in matching outfits. Why these outfits had to feature large watermelons and candy-cane striped legging-shorts, I’m not sure. … Continue reading
Rainy days inspire in me a spirit of reflection. Today, I found myself deep in thought about recent events in my life and those coming up. Rainy days also provide me with great clarity on the things right before my eyes. Here are the thoughts that came to mind while sitting at a traffic light on my way home:
Y’all stay dry,
Sugarlump
Things of which I never tire:
1) Sunsets
2) Laughter
3) Shoes
4) Floor plans
5) Chocolate
6) Family and close friends
7) Mystery
8) Sitting on a porch
9) The unconditional love of my little furballs
10) Mexican food
In an ideal moment, I would be sitting on a porch of a home I designed the floor plan of, with family and friends, furballs at my feet, eating Mexican food followed by something chocolate, while laughing in a fabulous pair of shoes, pondering the great mystery that is life, as the sun sets.
Y’all keep it real,
Sugarlump
A gigantic thank you to the Unconfirmed Bachelorette for nominating me for the One Lovely Blog and Inspiring Blog awards. You’re too kind. 🙂
In accepting this award, it is my pleasure to complete the following:
7 things about me:
And, now, for my nominees:
A lot of the blogs I like have the same theme that I do. I wonder: Do I like these blogs because I like the theme? Or do I like these blogs because the writers like the same things that I do and therefore I feel a connection? Seriously, like half of the blogs I nominate have the “forever” theme. It’s so warm and nostalgic. So informal and yet tidy looking. It’s how I like things to be.
Y’all hurry back,
Sugarlump
Lord, I was born a rambling (wo)man.
I tend to ramble. Not so much in my speech or in my travels, but in my mind. Here’s what’s gone through my head in the last few minutes:
1) My pinky finger hurts. (Also known as a “finky” in Eugene language.)
I gave myself a doozy of a paper cut today as I was trying to steadfastly recycle all of my paper, cardboard, bottles and cans. A thin piece of cardboard had it out for me. It drew blood. A lot of blood for a paper cut. I didn’t have anything to clean my cut with so I poured some hand sanitizer over it. BOY that did the trick. I had to squeeze my steering wheel with all my might to keep from yelling. Thankfully, car inspection lady who also works at the waste management center was not there this time to witness it.
2) I’m hungry.
I was perusing some food blogs today and came across a game-changing recipe that had to do with French fries, parmesan cheese and some sort of chipotle lime dip. It sounded outrageously delicious. I was planning on going for a brisk walk at the time and was seriously tempted to ditch those plans in favor of making the fries, but I held it together and stuck to my exercise plan.
That, and I didn’t have any potatoes.
I’m so disciplined.
3) I love accents.
Having lived in Boston for 13 years, I had a lot of exposure to extreme Boston accents, though I never had one myself. I don’t know what comes over me, but every now and then I think of words in a Boston accent. Kind of like when you learn a second language and think of words in that language, except not exactly. Anyway, I grabbed my loofah in the shower this evening and cracked myself up thinking of how this would be called a “loofer” in a Boston accent.
I’m weird.
4) I need to replace my watch battery.
My watch battery is nearly dead. Not completely dead, because the time does change, just at a fraction of real time. My watch currently reads 2:37PM and indicates that it’s the 5th of the month. I know I’m on slow time here in Nashville, but not that slow.
Despite my watch being temporarily useless, I continue to wear it as a reminder to go get the battery replaced. I have continued to forget to get the battery replaced for the past week now. And I also continue to forget that my watch is not functioning properly and consequently find myself staring at my wrist confused most of the day.
I think I need my memory replaced as well.
5) The sunsets here are so pretty.
I never tire of watching (and photographing) the sunset.
It makes me realize that I should stop thinking so much.
Don’t pay me no mind,
Sugarlump
A big ol’ thank you to Texas and Carine over at Texas, a Cat in New York for nominating me for the Super Sweet Blogging Award! You are so sweet to nominate me. I am very touched. 🙂
1. Cookies or cake?
I’m big on texture and I love the fluffiness of cake against a nice, rich icing. But I really like cookies, too. This is hard.
2. Chocolate or Vanilla?
CHOCOLATE. ALL. DAY. LONG.
3. What is your favorite sweet treat?
Rainbow cookies from Roma Bakery in Bluebell, PA.
4. When do you crave sweet things the most?
At all times. I have a big, bad sweet tooth.
5. If you had a sweet nickname, what would it be?
That’s easy: sugarlump!
Now, I would like to pass along this award to a baker’s dozen of sweet blogs:
Thank you for sharing your sweetness!
Sweet dreams y’all,
Sugarlump
I talked to dear little Eugene on Skype today. We discussed many things about her first week in Paris, the most important of those being the shopping of course. She showed me her latest finds, one of which was a pair of shoes. Men’s style, smoking slippers in cheetah print. They will look adorable on her because she has narrow feet and a high arch so even though they are based on a men’s style shoe, her feet won’t look manly in them. Seeing my favorable reaction, Eugene asked me if I might want a pair. I had considered this a while back when this style starting appearing in stores here and had come to the conclusion that my less narrow and less-arch-y feet might not look so cute in these shoes, but instead rather manly. Eeek.
So I told Eugene that I would be passing on smoking slippers, but to let me know if she found any pretty blouses. Surely those won’t look masculine on me.
Not two hours later, I was at the mall shopping for some black pants for work when I somehow found myself in the 65% off shoe racks at Dillards. I really have no idea how these things happen. I think it has something to do with a gravitational pull. Some sort of fundamental law of physics pertaining to women and shoes. I believe it’s called Prada’s law.
Anyway, I was circling the 7/7.5 rack like a lioness on the hunt for food for her cubs, when I ran across these little smoking slipper gems. I had seen them when they first hit stores a few months back. I had picked them up, swooned, considered the manliness factor, decided they might not be so bad due to their colorfulness, sequins, and hint of animal print, and then I put them back on the display because I couldn’t justify such a novelty purchase when I needed more basic and versatile shoes for work.
When I came across them again this evening, I was still on the hunt for practical shoes for work, but these shoes were much more enticing and justifiable at 65% off. I put them on with my black yoga pants. They didn’t look half-bad. I shook my head, telling myself that these were superfluous. Very fun, but certainly not what I need right now. I put them back on the shelf and walked around trying to find some basic black wedges, which have proven to be impossible to find this year.
Black wedge-less, I kept finding myself in front of the semi-manly, awesome shoes and I kept telling myself that I really didn’t need them.
But it didn’t matter. Because you just can’t say no to fabulous.
Precisely two hours and fifteen minutes after telling my sister that I didn’t want any smoking slippers, I purchased smoking slippers.
Clearly, I’m a woman of my word.
I can’t wait until Eugene reads this. I predict a lot of head-shaking.
Y’all stay fabulous,
Sugarlump
When I crave chocolate, I MUST have it. One chocolate item that really satisfies my cravings is chocolate sauce. I’ve even been known to eat it straight. I am not ashamed. Dark chocolate is good for you. Now, I am … Continue reading
Thank you to Peggy Isaacs for nominating me for the Addictive Blog award. I’m so glad someone else enjoys my little furballs as much as I do!
Award Rules:
Why I blog:
I started this blog as a way to capture sweet memories and experiences in my life and share them with my family and friends. I was inspired by the Pioneer Woman, who I first discovered on the Food Network and whose blog I now read religiously. Even though I’m not a huge fan of writing, somehow writing posts (to go along with the absurd amount of pictures I now take) has turned into a sort of ritual of reflection through storytelling. It makes me feel more connected and appreciative.
Somewhat coincidentally, I started this blog just before I moved to a new place on my own and it has been a great way for my family and friends to keep tabs on me and see what I’m up to in my new hometown of Nashville.
Unexpectedly, I have met some wonderful bloggers through this journey, who make my day when they “like” my post or leave a kind comment.
I don’t know where I’d be without this blog.
Blogs I find Addicting:
Thank you to my nominees for making me smile, laugh, scratch my head and reevaluate my life on a regular basis. I’m hooked.
Y’all come back now, ya hear?
